We are lucky, and pleased, to have Coach Eric Gudger as our Head Coach for the 2013-2014 season. Coach Gudger comes to us with a wealth of football experience, from playing, to coaching at every level from Pee-Wees through the pros. Coach played football under Joe Paterno at Penn State, graduating in 1989 with a BS in Rehabilitation Education, and continuing on to obtain a Masters of Education while acting as a Graduate Coaching Assistant at Penn State. He then moved on to coach as a Grad Assistant with West Virginia University, and was added to the coaching staff at Clemson University as an Assistant Defensive Back Coach in 1992. His final coaching stint at the college level was with Temple University, beginning in 1993 and lasting through the spring of 1997, where he acted as Wide Receiver Coach, Defensive Backs Coach, and Recruiting Coordinator. While at Temple he also interned for a summer with the Green Bay Packers in 1994.
Even though Coach Gudger left coaching as a full-time profession in 1997, his commitment to youth and the sport of football hasn't wavered. Eric has been a board member and coach at the West Pembroke Pines Optimist program since 2006, and has led his teams to win several super bowls through the years. That membership and commitment continues. As parents, we are excited about the leadership, vision and commitment that Coach Gudger has for the WBHS football program as we re-group and re-build. While Coach is committed to football as a game, and providing every tool to the boys so they can win as a team, he also firmly believes in the power and importance of education. We hope all support him as he gets to know the team, assembles his coaching staff, and builds a new legacy for the program. Go Bobcats!
